This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of drip tape irrigation and furrow irrigation systems under two planting methods, transplanting and direct seeding, on grain yield, biomass, thousand-grain weight, and water productivity in direct-seeded rice cultivation for Fajr variety. The experiment was carried out as a split-plot within a randomized complete block design with three replications over two years (2022-2024) at the Gorgan Agricultural Research Station. The experimental treatments included two irrigation methods (drip tape and furrow) and two planting methods (transplanted and seeded). The results indicated that the main effects of irrigation type and cultivation method on traits such as grain yield, biomass, thousand-grain weight, and water use productivity were significant at the 1% level. The highest grain yield (4390 kg/ha) was obtained in the transplanting with drip tape irrigation, and the lowest was in the direct seeding with furrow irrigation (2480 kg/ha). The highest biomass was in the transplanting with drip tape (10280 kg/ha), and the lowest was in the direct seeding with furrow (7145 kg/ha). The highest thousand-grain weight was obtained in the transplanting with drip tape, averaging 21.2 gr, and the lowest was in the direct seeding with furrow (17.5 gr). The highest water use productivity was achieved in the transplanting with drip tape with a value of 0.58 kg/m3, and the lowest was in the direct seeding with furrow irrigation (0.26 kg/m3). The highest and lowest applied water were 9160 and 7620 m3 /ha in the furrow irrigation-direct seeding and drip tape irrigation-transplanting treatments, respectively, resulting in 20% water savings. Overall, the use of drip tape irrigation in transplanting can increase the physical productivity of rice by reducing water consumption and providing a suitable yield.
